TrueField Optics Bench is an offline-first telescope and eyepiece workbench for amateur astronomers, astronomy-club mentors, and new scope owners. Instead of juggling scattered charts or planetarium apps, you assemble a full optical train—OTA, optional Barlow or focal reducer, eyepiece, and filter—from finished seed catalogs or custom specs, then instantly see magnification, true field of view, exit pupil, theoretical resolving power, and max useful magnification. A moon-referenced FOV disk, target-fit advisor by object class, multi-rig comparison charts, and printable FOV prep cards turn raw focal-length math into clear go/no-go decisions before you head outside. Everything stays on-device with persistent local rigs; no sky map, no account, no network required.

TrueField Optics Bench on iPhone and iPad.
Assemble an optical train by selecting telescope (aperture + focal length), optional Barlow/reducer factor, eyepiece (focal length + apparent FOV), and filter, then read live magnification, true FOV (° and arcmin), exit pupil, f-ratio, Dawes/Rayleigh limits, and max useful magnification with color-coded comfort bands.
Browse a fully finished seed catalog of 60+ common amateur OTAs and 80+ eyepieces (Plössl, wide-field, planetary, zoom) with real focal lengths and apparent fields—filter by type, aperture class, or budget tier; add custom glass when yours is missing.
Open the FOV visualizer: a true-field disk drawn to scale against a full-moon reference circle plus optional secondary disks so you can judge framing for lunar, planetary, and deep-sky targets at a glance.
Run Target Fit: pick an object class (Moon, planets, open cluster, globular, bright nebula, galaxy) and get green/amber/red fit ratings that compare your current exit pupil and true FOV to typical angular sizes and recommended pupils for that class.
Compare up to three named trains side-by-side on shared Charts metrics (magnification, TFOV, exit pupil, light grasp index) to decide which EP bag to pack for a given night.
Save unlimited named rigs (e.g. “Grab-and-go 80mm + 24mm Pan”) in local SwiftData, pin one Active Rig, duplicate or edit trains, and restore them after relaunch with zero placeholders.
